Johnson Ferry Baptist Church Brings Summer Lunches to Children Facing Food Insecurity

MARIETTA, GA — Johnson Ferry Baptist Church has announced the return of its Summer Lunches program, a community service initiative that provides free, hand-packed lunches to children in the greater Marietta area every Monday and Wednesday from June 3 through July 22.
Now in its continuing run as a summer staple, the program partners with STAR-C, a local organization that operates a summer camp for children in the community. Johnson Ferry volunteers prepare and deliver lunches directly to campers, ensuring that kids have access to a nutritious midday meal throughout the summer months.
A Simple Meal, a Meaningful Impact
Each lunch bag is assembled by church volunteers and includes a juice box, chips, a fruit item, and a sweet treat. The bags are also decorated by volunteers, adding a personal and encouraging touch for every child who receives one.
“It is a hands-on, meaningful way to bring joy, encouragement, and a simple meal that can make a lasting difference,” organizers noted.
How to Get Involved
The church is inviting community members to participate in several ways throughout the summer:
- Pack Lunches: Volunteers are needed to assemble and decorate lunch bags on service days running every Monday and Wednesday through July 22.
- Deliver Lunches: Community members can sign up to help transport and hand-deliver lunches to children at the STAR-C summer camp site.
- Donate Supplies: To keep every bag stocked, the church is accepting donations of juice boxes, chips, fruit items, and individually wrapped sweets. Donations can be dropped off at the church’s reception desk or purchased directly through the Johnson Ferry Summer Lunches Amazon Wish List.
