AppCounsel’s early intervention model prevents a wrongful conviction for first-degree murder, helping client avoid life in prison.

WASHINGTON, Sept. 10, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — AppCounsel announced today that one of its pre-trial clients shared with the Office of the Public Defender, who had been facing Murder and First-Degree Assault charges associated with the death of her infant child, has been freed from custody. She is now free to heal and reunite with her family.

As part of its innovative partnership with the Office of the Public Defender, AppCounsel worked on these cases for almost a year. AppCounsel worked with Life After Justice (LAJ) on these pilot cases, reviewing well over ten-thousand pages of documents, including medical records, governmental records, forensic reports, police reports, and witness statements, in connection with the death of the infant. The AppCounsel/LAJ team helped uncover evidence in these documents that showed that their client was not responsible for the death of her child. The State subsequently chose not to pursue Murder and Assault charges against the client.
