Samsara Launches New AI Solutions for the Public Sector to Modernize Critical U.S. Infrastructure

Samsara Inc. (“Samsara”) (NYSE: IOT), the pioneer of the Connected Operations® Platform, today announced three new purpose-built AI solutions to help government agencies and community organizations deliver critical services to constituents. Public sector organizations, from state and local government to K-12 school districts, can now leverage real-time data and AI to improve public safety, drive operational efficiencies, and build resilient infrastructure for long-term community success.

“Public sector leaders today face an unprecedented convergence of challenges: aging infrastructure, constrained budgets, and growing public demand for transparency and accountability in how government services are delivered,” said Ben Calderon, CTO, Hardware & Operations at Samsara. “They deserve technology that’s actually built for those challenges. Samsara’s Public Sector AI Suite helps government and community leaders do more with their budgets, with quick and visible returns.”

The suite introduces three solutions designed to address the most pressing challenges facing government agencies today:

Ground Intelligence for Public Sector: Proactive road condition monitoring to protect communities before problems escalate.

According to the 2025 American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Report Card, approximately 39% of major U.S. roads remain in poor or mediocre condition. Congestion, wear and tear, and extreme weather continue to degrade pavement quality, costing the average driver over $1,400 per year in vehicle damage, operating costs, and lost time.

Built on Samsara’s network of billions of data points from vehicles across 99% of major U.S. roads, Ground Intelligence helps public works teams detect urgent conditions such as potholes and severe weather, before accidents occur. Ground Intelligence helps public sector leaders and maintenance managers:

  • Reduce road risks with severity-based pothole mapping: Potholes cost the U.S. more than $750 million annually in material repair costs. With road condition visibility, public works teams get a continuously updated view of road defects, enabling them to detect dangerous defects before they cause accidents, vehicle damage claims, or costly injury lawsuits. This feature goes beyond simply capturing an image of the road. It uses a g-force threshold filter to assess the severity of the pothole and prioritize repairs based on the defined risk level. Road defects are mapped continuously—capturing new damage immediately after storms or freeze-thaw cycles rather than waiting for 311 calls or outdated pavement surveys.

  • Increase agency efficiency: Ground Intelligence eliminates the guesswork that forces crews to drive around looking for problems. With a complete, data-driven picture of road conditions available before anyone leaves the yard, agencies can build accurate maintenance plans, group nearby repairs into optimized routes, and right-size material orders, resulting in fewer hours windshielding and more potholes fixed per shift.

  • Proactively identify severe weather with StreetSense: When a storm rolls through or a citizen reports a downed sign, StreetSense lets agencies pull anonymized, ground-level footage from Samsara vehicles recently on the road so that they can confirm conditions and make dispatch decisions, all without leaving the office. This can also help identify issues such as clogged drains or fallen trees at specific intersections.

“Kalamazoo County, MI, handles roughly 6,000 pothole service requests every year, and with a lean team, we’re always looking for smarter ways to serve our community,” said Rusty McClain, Assistant Operations Director for Road Commission, Kalamazoo County. “Right now, our crews are working off stacks of paper to track down pothole locations, figuring out where to go next, and spending time on the road just getting oriented. Samsara’s new Pothole Visibility tool changes that entirely by giving us more eyes, arms, and legs on the road when we’re stretched thin. As stewards of the road and taxpayer dollars, we have a responsibility to be both effective and fiscally responsible, and Samsara helps us do both for our constituents.”

Waste Intelligence: AI-powered service verification to confirm every pickup, resolve disputes faster, and capture missed revenue.

Public sector leaders today struggle to track which services have been delivered, such as whether a trash pickup occurred. Waste Intelligence leverages Samsara’s AI multicam video footage to give waste management teams the visibility to answer those questions with confidence. Waste management professionals can now:

  • Resolve disputes in minutes: With Service Verification, teams can confirm whether a pickup occurred in seconds using AI-verified evidence, reclaiming staff capacity and keeping trucks on route.

  • Enforce policies with defensible evidence: With Overfill Detection, teams can defend overage charges with searchable, timestamped, media-backed records.

  • Capture missed revenue: HD video confirmation makes it easy to document and enforce policies, such as charging contamination fees.

Ridership Management: A complete, real-time picture of every rider from onboarding to drop-off.

School districts have long relied on paper rosters, driver memory, and manual processes, creating dangerous gaps in rider safety and serious liability exposure. Ridership Management replaces those processes with a real-time digital manifest that tracks every rider from onboarding to drop-off. Transportation and safety directors can now:

  • Increase rider accountability: Automatically flags unexpected boarding events, wrong-stop departures, and critical care requirements, such as parent presence or special needs.

  • Improve rider safety: Integrated safety check workflows and photo-verified end-of-route checks close the gaps that put vulnerable passengers at risk, while tools like restricted screen interaction keep driver attention where it belongs.

  • Modernize operations and reporting: Ridership data eliminates guesswork from fleet and route decisions, automated reporting frees administrative staff, and defensible compliance records ensure agencies are protected when it matters most.

Samsara will highlight the solutions today at its Go Beyond Public Sector event in Chicago, where the company will also recognize Dallas Fort Worth International Airport and Garden City Public Schools with Samsara Connected Operations Awards.
