How to Tell Your Home’s Panel Is Overloaded Before Fall Heating Season Hits
Plaistow, United States – July 10, 2026 / Moore Electric Inc. /
PLAISTOW, N.H., July 7, 2026 – Moore Electric is completing a series of electrical service upgrades across southern New Hampshire and the Merrimack Valley this month, replacing 100-amp panels with 200-amp service as peak-summer demand from air conditioning and heat pumps pushes older electrical systems beyond their original capacity.
Many of the homes receiving upgrades were wired decades ago for a significantly lighter electrical load. Running central air conditioning, a heat pump, a refrigerator, and a dryer simultaneously on a hot July afternoon places a 100-amp panel under strain it was never designed to handle. Homeowners recognizing that pressure now are opting to address it before fall, when heating systems return to full operation and electrical demand climbs again.
What an overloaded panel looks like
Electrical panels typically display warning signs before a breaker fails entirely. Lights that dim or flicker when the air conditioner or a large appliance starts up, a breaker that trips repeatedly under normal use, a panel cover that feels warm to the touch, or a persistent buzzing from the breaker box are all indicators worth investigating. Any single symptom warrants attention. Several occurring together suggest a panel operating at or near its limit.
“A lot of homes around here still run on 100-amp service that was fine in its day, but it was never sized for a heat pump and a couple of AC units all pulling at once,” said Brenden Moore, Master Electrician and owner of Moore Electric. “When I open up a panel in July, I can see where it’s been working too hard. Moving up to 200 amps takes that pressure off, and doing it now means it’s handled before the heat turns back on in the fall.”
A 200-amp service provides a home with the capacity needed for equipment that homeowners are actively adding – modern high-efficiency HVAC systems, an EV charger, or an expanded kitchen setup. Scheduling the work during mid-summer also allows for a more manageable timeline. Once colder weather arrives and heating systems come back online, demand for panel and service upgrades increases sharply.
Moore Electric manages the complete upgrade process, from permit applications and utility coordination through to the final inspection. Brenden Moore is present on every job, consistent with how he has operated the business for more than 25 years.
