A Brooklyn publisher has released 66 New York practice exams in which every one of the 26,398 wrong answers carries its own written explanation.
BROOKLYN, NY, UNITED STATES, August 17, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — NY Exam has published a practice-test library covering 66 exams and 8,756 questions, spanning the tests New York families and job applicants most often sit. Every wrong answer in it, 26,398 of them, carries a written explanation of what a student selecting it was likely thinking.
That is the unusual part. Most practice material reports a score. A score tells a student how many questions they missed; it does not tell them why, and the reason is the only part they can act on before the next sitting.
The catalogue includes the SHSAT, which decides admission to New York City’s specialized high schools, the TACHS and HSPT used by Catholic high schools in the Archdiocese of New York and the Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens, and the ISEE at all three levels. It covers the New York State assessments for grades 3 through 8, five Advanced Placement subjects, the ASVAB, and eleven New York City civil service titles including Police Officer, Correction Officer and Police Communications Technician.
“A score on its own is easy to misread, and a family acts on it,” said Chaim Lebowits, founder of NY Exam. “The sentence explaining why an answer was wrong is the part worth paying for.”
Exam results are reported to the parent or tutor rather than to the child. A student completing an exam sees a confirmation screen; the report showing each question, the answer given and why it was wrong goes to the adult who assigned the test. Written responses on the state assessments are marked against the published state rubrics rather than omitted.
Sections are timed as the corresponding real exam is timed, and answers are saved as they are entered so an interrupted sitting is not lost. Exams may be taken whole or one section at a time, which matters for adults preparing around a job. Where the real exam is untimed, as the New York State assessments are, the practice version is untimed.
The company also publishes a measurement of its own material that practice-test publishers do not usually disclose. A multiple-choice test can be beaten without being read if the correct answer is reliably the longest option, so NY Exam scores every section against that strategy and publishes the result. The best any length-based strategy now achieves on any section on sale is 40 percent, against the 25 percent that random guessing produces, and the company’s publishing process fails if a section rises above that line.
Every exam family has a free ten-question sample that requires no account, no email address and no payment details.
All questions, passages and explanations are original material. The library contains no real test questions and no material reproduced from any testing organization. NY Exam is not affiliated with, authorized by or endorsed by any testing organization, school district or education department.
